Childrens Furniture - Nursery Furniture

What better way to welcome your new arrival into your life than with his or her own nursery? There are so many choices to consider when you are shopping for nursery furniture, that you may start to feel a bit overwhelmed. However, if you take a few moments to think about what you will need before hand, you will be able to pick the perfect pieces for your baby's nursery.

You may want to choose a crib first, since the place your baby sleeps will be the most important piece of furniture in the nursery. Although most people are familiar with the traditional rectangular Jenny Lind style or flat railed cot beds, there are actually several options to choose from. If your home has a modern design, you can also find a more sleekly styled rectangular cot. If you prefer a more unique look, you may want to shop for one of the less common designer round cots for your infant.

Once you have selected your baby's cot, don't forget to add a few matching storage pieces. A baby dresser or wardrobe will hold plenty of tiny socks and sweaters while your infant is small. However, these pieces are so functional that they can also be used after your baby graduates from a cot to a children's bed.

Next, you may want to take a look at changing tables. Although the standard style with a lip that keeps your baby from slipping off the table is still readily available, you can also shop for a changing table that can convert to a dresser when your child is older.

For additional storage space and to provide the perfect spot for displaying your baby's first pictures and mementos, you may want to shop for a matching shelving unit. Shelves are so flexible and will store so many awkwardly shaped pieces.

As you are shopping, don't forget one important piece of furniture that both Mom and baby will enjoy. An adult sized rocker or glider will receive plenty of use during your baby's first year. You may also want to buy a matching child size rocker for your baby to use when he or she begins to toddle around.

Finally, you may want to add a cradle, rocker, or Moses basket to the nursery. These furniture pieces are perfect for the first few months of your baby's life and are easily moved from room to room so that adults can keep a close eye on the napping infant.
